The Grand Seiko Heritage Collection SBGY011, nicknamed "Asaborake", draws its inspiration from a moment as precise as it is ephemeral of Japanese nature: this moment when the night gradually retreats and when the first glows of dawn cross the mist to reveal the mountains of Shinshu. Its delicately textured white dial seeks to transcribe this peaceful atmosphere, giving the watch a depth that is gradually revealed according to the light.

Its 40 mm steel case takes up the spirit of the legendary 44GS of 1967, the founding model of the "Grand Seiko Style". Its stretched surfaces, frank edges and polished finishes particularly highlight the light work characteristic of the Japanese manufacture. With only 10.5 mm thickness and a box-shaped sapphire crystal, the SBGY011 retains a particularly elegant profile. The minute and second hands, shaped and slightly curved by hand towards the peripheral graduations, testify to the care given to the most subtle details.

At its heart beats the Spring Drive 9R31 calibre with manual winding, developed and assembled at the Shinshu Watch Studio. Its dual-spring system offers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, while Spring Drive technology allows for an advertised accuracy of ±15 seconds per month. The absence of a traditional mechanical exhaust allows the second hand to glide silently on the dial in a perfectly continuous movement, which has become one of Grand Seiko's most fascinating signatures. The calibre is revealed through the sapphire bottom, while the power reserve indicator is discreetly placed on the movement side to preserve the purity of the dial.

This 2023 example is offered in excellent condition and accompanied by its complete set including original box, papers and accessories. With its Asaborake dial, 44GS-inspired architecture and remarkable hand-wound Spring Drive movement, the SBGY011 offers a particularly pure expression of Grand Seiko philosophy, where watchmaking precision, craftsmanship and contemplation of Japanese nature meet.
