Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8

Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8

Description

  • See you on the Hidden Side

The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 reference 311.92.44.30.01.001 pays tribute to one of the most important missions of the space conquest. In December 1968, Apollo 8 became the first manned mission to leave Earth's orbit and bypass the Moon, taking on board three astronauts equipped with Speedmaster. This edition transposes this legacy into a resolutely contemporary interpretation, dominated by black ceramics and punctuated by particularly recognisable yellow details.

Its 44.25 mm case is entirely made of black ceramic and houses an open worked dial revealing part of the movement. The true uniqueness of this Speedmaster is revealed in its lunar decor: the main plate and the blackened bridges are laser engraved to reproduce the surface of the Moon. The visible side from the Earth appears on the dial side, while its hidden side is revealed through the sapphire case back. The yellow hands of the chronograph and the luminescent tachymetric scale break with this almost entirely monochrome architecture.

Powered by the Omega 1869 calibre, a mechanical chronograph movement with manual winding specially decorated for this reference. Offering a 48-hour power reserve, it is a spectacular aesthetic evolution of the traditional mechanical architecture of the Speedmaster. The background includes the inscriptions "APOLLO 8, DEC 1968", "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON" and the famous phrase pronounced before the passage behind the Moon: "WE'LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE".

This Speedmaster is mounted on its black calf leather strap with yellow insert, combined with a black ceramic pin buckle. Dated 2023, this example is offered in a condition close to new and accompanied by its complete set including box, papers and original accessories. A Speedmaster with a radical personality, where the history of Apollo 8, traditional mechanics and contemporary ceramic work meet in one of the most unique interpretations of the Moonwatch.
