Offshore Panda
A symbol of boldness and innovation, the Royal Oak Offshore “Panda” stands as the direct heir to a vision born in the 1980s under the creative drive of designer Emmanuel Gueit. At a time when the original Royal Oak was seeking a new breath of life, Audemars Piguet entrusted Gueit with the task of creating a watch that was more contemporary, more powerful, and capable of captivating a new generation. In 1993, the first Offshore was unveiled, making history with its imposing 42 mm case, visible gasket between the bezel and case, and rubber-clad pushers, aesthetic choices once considered radical and now recognized as hallmarks of the collection.
The reference 26170ST.OO.1000ST.01, introduced after 2007, carries forward Gueit’s original design language while adding a refined sense of contrast. Its white “Méga Tapisserie” dial is accented by black subdials, an iconic “Panda” configuration known for its perfect balance and remarkable legibility. Luminescent hands and hour markers, along with black rubber pushers and a screw-down crown, enhance the watch’s sporty and functional identity while preserving the precision of the original design.
The 42 mm satin-brushed stainless steel case features Audemars Piguet’s signature mix of sharp angles and delicate polishings. The octagonal bezel with exposed screws, inherited from Gérald Genta’s Royal Oak, remains the cornerstone of this bold architecture, here reinforced by a more muscular case design that stays faithful to the Offshore spirit.
Inside beats the automatic calibre 3126/3840, decorated and assembled in Le Brassus, offering approximately 50 hours of power reserve. Both robust and beautifully finished, this movement exemplifies Audemars Piguet’s technical mastery, combining precision, durability, and refinement.
More than thirty years after Emmanuel Gueit’s original vision, the Royal Oak Offshore “Panda” remains one of the most compelling interpretations of his legacy, a perfect balance between strength and finesse, between provocation and timelessness. An icon born from audacity, where Emmanuel Gueit’s creative genius meets the unmatched craftsmanship of Audemars Piguet.
This 2011 example is offered in excellent condition, complete with its original box and papers. It comes with its original AP stainless steel bracelet as well as a brand-new Audemars Piguet black alligator strap, allowing the watch to shift effortlessly from a sporty to a more elegant look without ever losing its identity.
