Description

  • The introduction of the 5712

This Patek Philippe Nautilus Moon Phases reference 5712/1A-001 has a feature that immediately distinguishes it from more recent examples, it dates from 2006, the first year of production of the reference. Launched to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, the 5712 succeeds the ephemeral 3712 and introduces a new generation that will become one of the most recognisable Nautilus of the modern era. Its gradient blue dial with horizontal relief retains this deliberately asymmetrical layout that has become its signature, bringing together power reserve between 10 and 11 hours, small seconds between 4 and 5 hours as well as a display combining date by needle and moon phases between 7 and 8 hours.

Its steel case retains proportions of remarkable finesse with only 8.52 mm of thickness. The alternation of satin and polished surfaces underline the construction inspired by a porthole, while the integrated bracelet naturally extends the lines of the case. The dial evolves from dark blue to black at its periphery, creating a depth that varies constantly according to the light. Despite the presence of several complications, the whole retains this sporting elegance and apparent simplicity that have largely contributed to the particular status of the 5712.

Through the sapphire case back appears the extra-flat automatic calibre 240 PS IRM C LU, equipped with a 22-carat gold micro-rotor and offering a power reserve of between 38 and 48 hours. This 2006 example has above all a particularly interesting feature for the observant collector, its movement still bears the Geneva Seal, a certification used by Patek Philippe before the introduction of its own stamp a few years later. This signature, associated with the very first year of production of the 5712/1A, directly places this watch in a pivotal period in the modern history of the manufacture.

Offered in excellent condition, this example is accompanied by its box, its manuals as well as an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives tracing the information kept by the manufacturer on the watch. The absence of the Certificate of Origin is thus compensated by a particularly coherent set for a part of this generation. More than a 5712/1A, this is a first-year model, still marked with the Geneva Seal, two details that give this Nautilus an additional historical dimension and make it particularly interesting for the collector.
